Online Mastercam Classes: Common FAQs From Prospective Students

Posted on

If you want to gain an advantage in the workplace, becoming qualified with mastercam operation and machine milling is an excellent way to do just that. However, not everyone has enough time to commit to a full-time training program at a local trade school in order to gain their professional certifications. If you are already in the machining industry and are ready to take your career to the next level, you should know that there is another solution in the form of online mastercam classes. If this sounds like something that will work for you and your busy schedule, it will be helpful to learn the answers to some of the most common questions about online mastercam training.

What do mastercam courses cover in online classes?

Mastercam courses essentially go over how to machine the basic parts using mastercam equipment. Once you are familiar with the basic blueprints and processes, the same skills can be applied in various aspects of machining. While the courses can vary between schools, you will probably get to take courses on things like:

  • 2D milling processes
  • 3D milling processes
  • 4 and 5-axis machining processes
  • using mastercam equipment to create lines and shapes
  • troubleshooting mastercam equipment
  • general CNC programming topics

How are the classes taught?

This will really depend on the program you go with and what they offer. However, in most cases, your coursework will include video lessons for various machining processes using mastercam equipment. You will watch a series of videos that teach you various machining steps for some of the primary processes you will run into in the industry. Once the video lessons have concluded, you will be likely be quizzed on your knowledge of each process. Some training programs offer simulated computer training as well, which can give you an almost hands-on experience with using mastercam products in machining. Because the classes are offered online, you get to do the course work in your own time without having to set aside time for classes.

Will an online qualification be just as good as a qualification from a trade school?

Most employers will recognize a certificate of completion in mastercam training whether you go to physical classes or do the work online. In fact, many mastercam classes are offered online b the same trade schools and colleges that have on-campus classes. Therefore, a lot of the training material and lessons are pretty much the same.
